If you’re out there looking for mods for this title, well congratulations: you’re a true hardcore player.

Insurgency: Sandstorm isn’t really a game for everyone.

The multiplayer tactical FPS developed by New World Interactive is unlike any other modern FPS on the market. While the game did get some flak at release, there’s no denying that it’s a solid and engaging title.

Focused on online play, there aren’t a whole lot of mods that can be used for local sessions. But if you can find community servers that make use of the following mods, modern warfare will never be the same.

10. Jump Shoot

Trying to strike the perfect balance between simulation and action gameplay, Insurgency: Sandstorm doesn’t feature many new battle styles.

If you’re used to jumping and shooting at the same time, and want to be able to do it in the game regardless of what the developer thinks, all you need is this handy mod.

Easy to install and a simple change to the gameplay. Show the world that nothing is truly sacred.

9. Compound City

Feel like taking part in an anti-terrorism op?

The Compound City map has been created just for you, then.

This custom map, which supports the Coop Checkpoint Security and Coop Hardcore Checkpoint Security play modes, is a well-designed map that requires you and your team to always be at the top of your game.

It offers a lot of perfect hiding spots, so it’s tricky. And these can become the site of your grave, if you’re not careful enough.

8. Trenches

Real war is nothing like the one seen in video games.

Not surprising, considering how things can get boring in a virtual world!

The Trenches map brings the game’s realism to new heights. It lets you and your team engage in a trench war as if you were among the troops involved in World War I.

It is definitely not going to be pretty. As capturing checkpoints requires you to move out in the open while surrounded by enemies, but mastering this map is sure to make you a much better player.

7. Tactical Theaters

Server-side mods are not particularly useful if you’re just a regular player.

But the Tactical Theaters mod is so good, that it deserves to be mentioned.

This mod is, in reality, a collection of custom load-outs that effectively change some of the game’s core mechanics.

Some of the major updates include the class system, the weapon system, and the slots system. You just have two choices to enjoy all these changes: start your own server, or bug your favorite admin to implement some of them. You will not be disappointed!

6. Operation Redwood

Only the most hardcore of hardcore players are allowed past this point.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Redwood.

Operation Redwood is a difficult co-op checkpoint map meant to be truly difficult.

It features little to no cover, and objectives that are quite far from one another. As such, teamwork is more important than ever. And a slow deliberate pace is the key to victory.

And just like a real military operation: no need to rush towards your death.

5. Tactical Armory

Disappointed that Insurgency: Sandstorm isn’t getting a whole lot of new content nowadays?

Well stop pouting and check out the Tactical Armory mod.

This mod, which is yet another server-side mod, completely overhauls the class system. And it introduces a lot of new content to the game like optics, attachments, and fire support.

And if you’re into skins, this mod also provides new ones for most of the game’s weapons.

The only downside is that you will need a server to enjoy all this new content. But that shouldn’t be too much of a problem for someone that has survived countless battles, right?

4. Shipment

How would CoD Modern Warfare play with more realistic mechanics?

This mod kind of answers that question.

Shipment is a faithful recreation of the map of the same name found in the now-classic fourth entry in the Call of Duty series.

So you should have no problem mastering it if you played that game to death.

And if you want to spice things up a little, enjoy the Massacre game mode included here. It’s a mode where only the fastest will emerge victorious.

And without too many holes in their bodies, possibly.

3. Tactical Bots

I don’t know about you, but I really hate when AI-controlled bots do not behave as they should.

This Tactical Bots mod thankfully puts an end to this problem by making the AI much smarter, especially in close range.

The only downside is that this is a mod (like many others) meant for servers, so you’ll have to find one that supports it. Or make your own to see if a machine can play war as well as any human.

Spoiler: it can.

2. Wolf-land

There’s a definite lack of night maps in Insurgency: Sandstorm.

And it’s hard to understand why. Did the developers think war is only a daytime activity?

The Wolf-land map is a pretty detailed terrain that comes with a fully functional night mode.

This will make your sessions tenser than ever. All game modes are supported by the map, too.

So it’s time to adjust your eyes to the lack of light and dominate.

1. TORO

No custom map made for Insurgency: Sandstorm reaches the levels of quality of TORO.

And it’s still in beta!

This TORO map is a fully-featured city map that looks great, thanks to reworked lighting and extremely detailed models.

And is supports all of the game’s play modes.

The design is also extremely balanced so you’re sure to have fun, no matter the mode you’re playing in! Definitely check this one out if you need some new scenery.
