Protagonists are usually the most lovable characters in their respective show.

However, there are some notable exceptions where the side crew absolutely steal the show.

Just look at the Sinbad Magi spinoff, for example!

So let’s take a look at some other anime characters that might truly deserve their own shows. And who knows, maybe one day they’ll get ‘em.

12. Yami Sukehiro

Yami Sukehiro In Black Clover Anime

Anime: Black Clover

How has Yami still not gotten a spinoff series?

The man is literally the perfect protagonist: he’s a strong and capable warrior, a ladies’ man who’s also dense as a rock, he has an underdog story as being a foreigner in a new land, and he’s an absolute beef cake.

Every time Yami gets a flashback sequence, everything about his screams MC.

I honestly think it would have a similar vibe to the aforementioned Sinbad situation, which as we all know is a very good thing.

11. Isaac Dian and Miria Harvent

Isaac Dian And Miria Harvent From Baccano Anime

Anime: Baccano!

If you’ve watched Baccano, you already know that these two could absolutely dominate in a comedy show.

They have so much chemistry and their antics have never failed to make me laugh.

I think it would have a similar appeal to KonoSuba, where it literally did not matter what they were up to. Because as long as they were together something, funny is bound to happen.

They could have at least been more prominent in the specials! Like come on Brain’s Base, you’re missing out on gold here!

10. Mirio Togata

Mirio Togata In My Hero Academia

Anime: My Hero Academia

Spoiler warnings ahead:

Mirio has so much protagonist potential that I could honestly see more than one way to make a spinoff work.

The first option being to showcase his rise to power, as I think he has an even better underdog story than Deku.

The second solution could be to follow him after he’s lost his Quirk.

As shown in the battle with Overhaul, he’s still more than capable of kicking some butt. And having a Quirkless hero save the day would be a really interesting take on the series.

Heck, they could probably even make a comedy show with this man, he’s just that good.

9. Shinra Kishitani

Shinra Kishitani From Durarara Anime

Anime: Durarara!!

The underground doctor gimmick is an untapped goldmine, in my opinion.

And Shinra would fit that role so well, being that he’s equal parts funny, charismatic, and a hopeless romantic.

It would be like watching Doctor Tenma, only less sad, and with an actual likable love interest.

The show could take place prior to him getting together with Celty, or after, it doesn’t matter much. Just give me more wholesome and tense Shinra content!

8. Hisoka Morow

Hisoka Morow From Hunter X Hunter (2011)

Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Hisoka is one of the best villains that anime has to offer. And part of his appeal is precisely how grey he can sometimes be.

If he feels like helping the protagonists out, he will. And if not, he’ll try to murder them.

A show where the audience constantly has to guess which way the protagonist is going to lean would be extremely binge worthy.

Especially if we follow Hisoka as he hunts down the Phantom Troupe and ultimately Chrollo. I’m getting hyped just thinking about it.

7. Rundellhous Kode

Rundellhous Kode In Log Horizon Anime

Anime: Log Horizon

Rundellhous and the gang would simply be perfect for a slice of life-esque show.

He has that typical protagonist flair, coupled with a very interesting background, and even some underdog undertones. So following his party as they level up would be fun and wholesome.

Log Horizon show even gave us a taste of this potential spinoff, as some episodes focus largely on Rundellhous and his gang.

But I think they could have done even more.

He’s just too charismatic and fun to look at.

6. Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha From Naruto: Shippuden

Anime: Naruto: Shippuden

Considering that there’s a spinoff manga centred around Itachi, it’s quite evident that there’s an audience for the character.

Although the tone of the show would be much darker than the original Naruto, I think it would make for an excellent change of pace.

Following this legendary ninja as he goes from a young prodigy enlisted in the war, to a supposed mass murderer and rebel, would make for a great story. As well as giving way more weight to his inevitable demise.

5. Tatsumaki

Tatsumaki In Tatsumaki

Anime: One Punch Man

There are quite a few characters in OPM that would make for excellent comedy protagonists, namely Mumen Rider and King.

However, I think Tatsumaki would be the best of the bunch through the sheer power of tsundere.

Who doesn’t like a typical overpowered MC action show?

Now just imagine that, but with a tiny tsundere capable of dropping meteors, who also can’t handle her alcohol in the slightest. And she has a jealous little sister.

You can’t tell me that’d be anything but an awesome show!

4. Roy Mustang

Roy Mustang From Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

To give credit where credit is due, Roy does get a lot of screen time in the show.

However, for a character as interesting as the Flame Alchemist himself, I think no less than a full spinoff could suffice.

He would make for the perfect cocky protagonist who secretly cares about everyone. And I think his battles would be just as entertaining as those of the Elric brothers.

Timeline-wise, it could be set literally at any point of his life, and I would probably still drop everything to watch it.

3. Levi

Levi From Attack On Titan Anime

Anime: Attack on Titan

Just picture it:

A show all about everyone’s favourite character, Levi. We already got the footnote version of his backstory, but I think expanding that gritty story into a few episodes would set the mood wonderfully.

And then watching him distinguish himself among the Scouts and seeing him grow closer to Erwin would be an absolute treat.

Speaking of Erwin, he would also make for a bomb protagonist. I’m honestly happy with either or, but landed on Levi just so I could get to see him gradually transform into one of the biggest anime badasses.

2. Shouta Aizawa

Shouta Aizawa In My Hero Academia Anime

Anime: My Hero Academia

Eraserhead was my favorite teacher in My Hero Academia. And I think he could carry a prequel show with no issue.

His Quirk is really unique, and it also puts him into a position where he has to be extremely tactful with it, as well as have the strength to defeat any foe before he has to blink.

And that just sounds like an amazing combination to me.

Just imagine him in a tournament arc! The fact that Present Mic would also be there just makes the entire thing even better.

1. L

L From Death Note Anime

Anime: Death Note

Don’t even try to tell me that you wouldn’t watch a gritty detective anime that had L as the central protagonist.

Just think about how amazing that would be! The show could be episodic and have L solve one case after the other.

Or it could just place him in a similar predicament like in the original series.

The episodes of Death Note where L was present were easily the best ones. And I’m honestly shocked that no one has made this idea into a reality yet.
